Chinese Researcher QIU Feng Receives Inaugural IQ Award

Oct 26, 2023

Professor QIU Feng, a researcher from the Institute of Modern Physics (IMP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), was awarded the inaugural IQ Award at the 11th International Low Level Radio Frequency Workshop (LLRF2023) held in Gyeongju, South Korea on October 25.
QIU was the world's first scientist to receive this award. He was recognized for his outstanding contributions in the field of low-level radio frequency (LLRF) control, including advanced disturbance observer-based control, real-time iterative learning control for beam loading compensation, robust techniques for suppressing field emission-induced cavity faults, and high precision radio frequency signal calibration algorithm.
QIU Feng has been engaging in research of LLRF control since 2008. He has applied emerging technologies and methods such as digital signal processing, advanced control algorithms and artificial intelligence to achieve real-time precision control of accelerator radio frequency systems, which ensures long-term operational stability of beam. He has published over 50 academic papers, including the Physical Review Accelerators and Beams and Nuclear Science and Techniques.
He has been awarded the first prize at the 10th National Symposium on Accelerator Microwave Radio-Frequency Technology and has served as a lecturer of the LLRF system at the International Accelerator Schools.
The International LLRF Workshop is the most well-established professional conference in the field of LLRF.
Established in 2023 to recognize and reward outstanding individual or group contributions in global LLRF community, the IQ Award will be granted to only one winner globally every two years. The selection process, which spanned six months, involved the nomination of candidates by eminent scientists, and multiple rounds of deliberation and voting by the Selection Committee formed under the auspices of the LLRF Scientific Program Committee.
